STORYDOC organizes the second session training and network-building program in Leipzig on Oct 30, 31 and Nov 1.

The European Industry Events of History Doc are funded by EU MEDIA.

The participation of the Palestinians in History Doc Workshop is funded by Heinrich Boell Stiftung.

The schedule program is following:
The second e-workshop of StoryDoc laboratories for development documentaries held on October, 11 and 17 coordinated by the videoconference center of StoryDoc in Athens.
Mikael Opstrup, our Head of Studies, Emma Davie, our Head of Tutors and Chara Lampidou, our coordinator organized meetings face to face with the 18 directors and producers which are participating in the StoryDoc seminars of 2012.
During the e-workshops the participants together with their tutors fixed their project in order to be ready for their presentation at the 2nd session workshop which will take place in Leipzig on Oct 30,31 and Nov 1, 2012
The second session training and network-building program of STORYDOC workshop 2012 will take place at Leipzig in parallel with Dok Leipzig and supported by MEDIA EU Continuous training.


The dates are October 30th, 31st and November 1st.

In a warm atmosphere in Athens at the auditorium of Goethe Institute, was completed the first development workshop STORYDOC 2012 (supported by the MEDIA PROGRAMME).

5 projects were awarded a scholarship, which covers all costs for the second workshop in Leipzig (October) in collaboration with the Dok-leipzig International Festival. Directors and producers from France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Romania, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus and Greece participated in one to one meetings and small group meetings with 14 tutors and experts from the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Denmark, FYROM and Greece. Special guest was Diana El Jeiroudi director of the Festival Dox-Box Damascus Syria, who presented samples of documentaries that are shot during the civil war in Syria

Prestigious directors, professors from Universities from Europe and Greece, producers and Commissioning Editors and documentary consultants, present an extensive program of lectures during the four days of the workshop for documentary  filmmakers in Athens, June 5-8 at the Goethe Institute.
A variety of subjects will be covered such as:
"When a Local Story Becomes International", by Emma Davie,
"Trailers – Examples for Inspiration" by Mikael Opstrup,
"The TV Landscape of Tomorrow", by Philippe van Meerbeeck,
"Working as Director Beyond TV Remits", by Eva Stefani and Emma Davie,
"To Shoot from the Editors Perspective", by Stan Newmann.

A special public event will be dedicated in depth with one theme : "Being a Documentary Filmmaker in Times of Political Changes". Exemplified by Syria and Greece,by Diana El Jeroudi from DOX –BOX Damascus, Syria & Markos Gastin from Greece.

A call for observers is open now.
The cost is 100 euros per person. For students the cost is 50 euros.

Extension of application deadline. Until April 20, 2012 extended the deadline for application forms. Storydoc is a training programme with the focus on the development of documentary projects with the support of MEDIA PROGRAM.
The Projects wanted should have a strong South Eastern Europe and  Mediterranean connection.  The call is open to filmmakers from the Region, other filmmakers with a project that deals with the area.
25 projects will be selected.
The selected creative documentary and cross media projects will be developed through two residential sessions(Athens June 5-8 and Leipzig October 28-30) and three e-workshops tutored by experienced documentary directors, commissioning editors, producers, editors and generalists. At the second session pitching will be organised to extra 5-10 commissioning editors and distributors.
Storydoc will offer to the selected projects 5 scholarships to attend the session in Leipzig.
Arab Spring countries in a Forum on culture and politics organized by the Goethe Institute
Kairo in cooperation with the Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) last December in Cairo, Egypt
Participants from the Arab countries, Greece, Spain, and Germany took part in this Forum to
present and discuss.  Kostas Spiropoulos, director of StoryDoc participated in the Forum and he presented the forthcoming training and coporoduction avtivityDocumenting the Social Media Movement  in the Arab Spring and the financial crisis in Greece and South Eastern Europe.
2011ramallah 085NEW DEADLINE: 3rd of March.Call for Palestinian documentary proposals το be  developed at the Ramallah Doc's training and and co-production initiative, is open to Palestinian filmmakers. Workshop in Ranallah , Palestine  March 21-23 organized by Pen-Media and Storydoc with the support of ARTE, French Consulate in Jerousalem, the Goethe Institute Ramallah.

The team of tutors for the Ramallah Doc workshop, is complete.  Six European experts, documentary consultants, filmmakers, producers and commissioning editors consist the team lead by documentary consultant Tue Steen Muller .

A seminar in Greece, in November 2011, after a lot of turbulence around the Greek economy, a new government, the EU leaders meeting constantly to find a way! In Greece where politicians do not walk out alone in the evenings. It is not easy and there is much frustration, hate, aggression, anger and little hope and optimism. The situation for the Greek film people? Well the Greek Film Centre, I understood, has been out of operation for a long time, and the representative from Greek television ERT told her colleagues that she could not tell anything as everything, slots for documentaries, funding, whatever, was up for discussion and change. That Storydoc continues is only due to the commitment and fundraising skills of its founder, Kostas Spiropoulos, and his Mama Storydoc, Chara Lampidou, who never give up and try to stimulate the sector wherever possible.
