This is a program of producing short lenghth documentaries, it is an international project of STORY DOC, in cooperation with the Anna Lindh Foundation and the support of the greek Ministry of Culture. It is taking place in five countries, Greece, Malta, Algeria, Morocco and Palestine.


Aim of the program: The program is aiming at producing short documentaries or video narrations, created by young people between 16 - 26 years old, telling the story of others within the same country, from a different cultural, social and religious background.

Participation - Creation groups: The creative team must consist of two young persons 16 - 28 years old, having a central role on the creation of the documentary. The central role entails having the central idea, being a cameraman or the film maker, or even the narrator. The teams may be consisting only of youths, or they can be mixed with young members or adults, such as teachers, friends or film makers. Those participating in the creatice groups is necessary to have a dual role, investigating the life of the others, but also being the object of investigation as a member of a unique ethnic or religious group.

Issues:  The “others” on these working groups are young people from different ehtnic, social and religious backgrounds, people living in poor areas of the city, refugees, members of minority groups or youths that go against traditional sexual norms and values. Some central issues for furhter contemplation are, studies and lunguage problems, everyday activities, social mobility and social exclusion, unemployment and working in the black market, different values and prejudices of several kinds.

Participation Applications: Application can be subitted as a group or as a person, between the 23rd of September and the 7th of November. We need all your personal details, name and surname and contact number plus an up to 500 word text about your documentary idea. It would be appropriate to put in the application form all the details of any technical capabilities that you have at your disposal. If you have any ready made documentary material you may attach it to your electronic application form on the internet.

Selection Process: We will select four of the creative proposals from those submitted, proposals that will be contemplated during seminars of documentary production and analysis during the period 14 - 17th November. The location of the seminar will be announced on the 8th of November. There will be a second seminar of final documentary contemplation between the 3rd and the 8th of January 2014. In the second lab STORY DOC offers services of translation, subtitltes, montage, editing and sound - mixing.

Second Opportunity: The groups or persons that will not be selected for the final phase, up to the number of two, will have the opportunity to participate in another “final result” selection process as independent participations, separately from the other lab - productions. All available can send their participation material in DVD form to the STORY DOC address / Mithimnis 19 p.c. 112 - 56, with the 17th of April 2014 being the last date of possible submission of material and relevant applications. The selection of the independent - 2 will be announced on the 24th of April 2014.

Final Results - EurodocVision: The films that will be produced in the labs in Athens and in other cities around the world that participate in the program, including the two independent ones, will be presented in theatres in Athens and other cities abroad , with english subtitles, in June 2014. The official program will be announced on the 30th of May. At the end of every film there will be a vote of the public using the Eurivision method. Each local audience will give up to 12 points to its favourite film. At the end there will be a live announcement of the final results. The votes will select the three best documentaries or films. STORY DOC reserves the right to develop a vertebrate documentary, consisting of some or all the submitted documentaries, and to presented to festivals in Greece or abroad.

Awards: If the public gives the first place to a film produced in Greece, in the EurodocVision contest, Story Doc will offer the following awards.

First Award: A trip for three people in Malta, Morocco, Algeria or Palestine, with all expenses paid, the visitors will be supported by local youth that take part in the program. A year long free subscription for the Journal of Books.

Second Award: A full year long scholarship for the Media Studies Shool of Journalism, a yearly free subscrition for the Journal of Books, free membership cards for the Technopolis of the City of Athens.

Third Award: A full scholarship for the international Story Doc Seminar for documentary production within the 2014 - 15 period, a yearly free subscrition for the Journal of Books, free membership cards for the Technopolis of the City of Athens.

Participation Award: All those participating get as participation award the STORY DOC documentary production manual, “Do your one film or documentary” plus free membership cards for the Technopolis of the City of Athens, plus a media kit with all the films.
